Highlights Of 2019

This is a montage of my best 2019 learning experiences, provided with a few of my challenges and things I could work on going into the year of 2020. I’ll also be giving advice out to the current Year 5’s and 4’s, who will be transported into Year 6’s and 5’s.

Best 2019 Learning Experiences

My best 2019 learning experiences mostly come from my Writing Education. Last year, I left off as a Level 3 Beginning writer at the end of 2018, and have evolved into a Level 4 Advanced in my writing. For me, that’s my biggest improvement and I was stoked to see that my writing had gone up that high.
Some other noticeable achievements during my learning experience as a Year 6 is my Spelling evolution, Reading evolution, Art evolution and Athlete evolution.

Improvements I  Wish To Make In 2020

I mainly just want to get better at math, more specifically, in my Fractions work. Fractions isn’t my best topic and I hope to get better at it. I’d also like to improve with my social abilities whilst speaking to people I don’t know. When I start my two years at GisInt, I hope to become more social and make friends other than just people at my school.

Advice For Upcoming Seniors

My advice would just to be obedient and respectful. It’s a simple but impacting way to earn trust from your teachers and peers.

I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post, and good luck to those upcoming Year 6’s and 5’s!

Success Criteria

The Success Criteria for this task was to obtain, and create a sustainable, collage tray made from scraps, fabric and a cardboard tray. Our focus was to recycle items we no longer need and make it into something useful.

How Did I Make This?

The process is quite simple, all you need is: Bundles of scrap fabric, a cardboard tray, glue (preferably homemade glue, made of flour and water), and PVA glue. The thorough steps are to pick out your fabrics, smother them in the glue made of flour and water (make sure to cover all of it, but don't be too sloppy with it, if you use too much glue it can become messy and reduce the chances of making a complete tray with no gray areas), and begin with the corners of the tray. The corners are most important in this case, and make sure to try and get the fabric to cover the sides until it reaches the edge of the bottom. It's a requirement to complete the corners first, because if you begin with the sides and the flooring, it can become confusing and it will end in disaster.

Tray Concepts

During the making of these trays, we were told "not to follow a specific theme", but if you wish to find fabrics with a theme, it will come out more quality and not so messy. In the beginning, I intended to go flowery themed, but I decided to change it up and just stick fabrics together, since our entire class had to use the same fabrics which made it difficult to obtain flowery fabrics.

Following Emotions

I found an interest to the art in general, the concept and art setup was intriguing. The difficulties came in sharing the fabric around, as there was a limited amount of fabrics and many of the aesthetic fabrics were long gone quite quickly. I think I could work on working with a better aesthetic, my tray looked all over the place and I could improve the quality.

The History Of Polynesian Voyager, Kupe

Who is Kupe?

Kupe is recognized as the first Polynesian traveler to visit Aotearoa, and in some cases,
the very first international traveler to reach New Zealand and land successfully on-shore.

Kupe’s appearance

Kupe was a male, from Hawaiki, Tahiti. Kupe’s father was from Rarotonga,
and his mother, from Rangiatea. He was a powerful chief before his travel,
and landed on New Zealand, in the year 925 BC.
The waka he voyaged on and his tribe is unknown.

Kupe’s purpose

Fun fact; Kupe never intended to visit New Zealand. His real purpose and
focus was to capture a giant octopus blocking up the fishing grounds in Hawaiki,
that was summoned by his great competitor, Muturangi. He journeyed with his wife,
and his companion Ngake, who traveled on a different canoe,
called the  Tāwhirirangi

How did he navigate?

Kupe navigated by following the stars, which is a common method travelers back
in the beginning would use to find their way to where they were travelling.
He also viewed the ocean’s currents to seek his way, clouds and of course,
unintentionally, the octopus he was trying to capture.
Most of the methods he used to navigate his way are very common methods
they used.

What destinations did Kupe reach?

Kupe sailed all around New Zealand, some places were even named after him.
He traveled to Aotearoa, of course, South Wairarapa, Northland Regions,
and Cook Strait, where the octopus was finally destroyed.
Kupe landed on much more locations, and I'll list them: Maungataniwha Range,
Kohukohu, Nga-Kuri-A-Kupe, Tuputupu Whenua, Pori Here, Akiha, Arai-Te-Uru, Te
Mana-O-Kupe, Ki Te Moananui A Kiwa, Wellington Harbour, Worser Bay,
Pari-Whero, Barrett Reef, Sinclair Head, Thoms Rock,
Cape Palliser, Nga
Ra-O-Kupe, Matakitai, Makaro, Matauranga, Cloudy Bay,
Te Mimi-O-Kupe,
Okukari bay, Te Ope-A-Kupe, Nga Whatu Kaiponu, Te Kupenga-A-Kupe,
Te Kawau-A-Toru, Te Aumati, Rangitoto,
and Nga Tauari-O-Matahourua.
The most historical event placing in Kupe’s timeline,
was the naming of Aotearoa.
Kupe’s wife, Kuramārōtini, spotted a long white clouds,
and said “aotearoa”, meaning “Long White Cloud”,
which gave New Zealand it’s name, Aotearoa.

Summarizing Comment

If calculated, Kupe visited Aotearoa around 1000 years ago! Many people believe
Kupe was the first traveler to visit New Zealand.

 Success Criteria

For this art task, we were told to create a custom Waka, adding special features and creating a successful canoe. This task was involved around our voyaging, and Tuia 250.

About My Creation

My Waka was based off of things I liked, and although some details aren't visible in picture-form, many details were constructed into the design of my Waka. Others went for many themes (e.g Music Themed, Cartoon Concept or a Basic Waka). The shape of the Canoe I chose was inspired by a quarter moon, or a crescent-like shape.

Colors Of The Waka

The color-scheme I chose for my Waka had no basic storyline, I just went with the flow, but tried to make the colors seem fitting with each other.

What I Enjoyed, Found Challenging, & What I Can Do Next Time

I was drawn to creating the design in general, lots of thought and creativity was required for this activity and it was fun, yet challenging to come up with a proper, sturdy concept. I found picking out my color scheme difficult, although I intended to "go with the flow" with my coloring, during the time when I was picking out my color scheme, I found it difficult to find the first color I would use on my design. What I could do next time, is to try not to restart a lot, per-se. I restarted quite an amount of times, wasting paper, therefore wasting trees. I think it would be better if I started with a defined plan to enhance how successful the design would be.

Extra Information

The process of making this took around a week, due to restarting numerous times. I included phrases on my Waka, such as: VIVID, Fancy You, 둘 중에 하나만 골라 Yes Or Yes, 다들 Blah Blah, I see That I'm ICY, I'm the Bad Guy .. Duh, and ¥500. The phrases seem cringe-worthy (Most likely the Billie Eilish Phrase if i'm honest), but these phrases all come from things I like. E.g the ¥500 comes from Japan.

🖤 ᴀɴɴᴇ ғʀᴀɴᴋ ᴀɴɪᴍᴀᴛɪᴏɴ 🖤

Introduction

For the past few weeks, we've been working on an Animation, inspired by the diary of Anne Frank. Anne Frank was a young Jewish girl that lived during the time of world war II. Anne died when she was fifteen, in 1945. Anne Frank became well-known and popular after her death for her diary, explaining life as a Jewish young girl, living in a Nazi Occupied country. Anne Frank wrote her diary during when she was hiding in a vacant attic.

What's My Animation About?

My animation is about the section in the story, in which Anne's sister, Margot Frank, received a letter, and a satchel bag, and was told that she needed to pack her most precious items in the satchel, as she was forced into a Jewish Slavery Camp. I didn't have much time, the day I am posting this was the final day for finishing the animation.

Why This Scene?

I chose this scene because it was one of the moments that stood out to me. It blew my mind how Margot was only around fifteen or sixteen at the time, it must have shaken her. It was most likely a nostalgic time for the Jewish. But I won't get into a lot of it, as it may offend some Jewish or just people in general.

What I Enjoyed, Found Difficult, And What I Could Do Next Time

Creating the animation in general is what made the experience of the process euphoric. I think the most difficult thing for me was dealing with the glitch and lag that constantly occurred during making the animation, it made it hard to focus and frustrating. Next time, I think I could try and get this done on time. I would have been more happy to finish it last week.

Extra Information

Now, for some extra information, about the creating, tips and ideas for slide animations. Try using borders for shapes, it makes it look much more appealing and more quality and detailed. A good shortcut to use during making slide animations is CTRL+D. Don't get mad at the Chromebook, it will make the situation worse if it is lagging or breaking constantly.

Ending Statement

Thank you for viewing my post. Please leave a thoughtful comment that will help me with my blog posts, and hopefully you can check out my other posts!

🍯 ʜ ɪ ᴠ ᴇ s 🍯

The only vision visible peaked through my forcefully narrowed eyes,
my lips enlarging as the swelling grew progressively worse.
I presumed my life was on the line, as my breathing grew heavier.
I scowled, the experience already wasn’t an experience i’d appreciate.
Humid, vigorous tears sprawled in numerous spots on my face, as I wondered,
“What would happen next?”
Despite myself being very sultry, I provided myself with a hoodie, and
leggings, to cover up the faded ruby hives plastered across my limbs.
My knuckles clenched, I didn’t know what was going to happen.
I was neurotic, anxious.
For the entire ride, I couldn’t help but think about the after-effects of
my hives. What was yet to come?
I stumbled into the Hospital building, my covered arms wrapped around my waist.
It was completely discomforting to leisurely creep into a public Hospital, with
my lips enlarged, my eyes narrowed and my hands and feet swollen and chubby.
I had entertainment in the locks with me, as I had brought my device and knew
the wait would be extended.
After 3 hours, I was checked on by a professional nurse.
I was informed that I apparently had to take a Blood Test.
My eyes  gaped open, as I have Aichmophobia; Fear of Needles.
At this moment, I wanted to perish.
She disappeared for a quick moment, than wheeled back, clutching o to the handle
of a table, filled with Blood Test tubes, and a single plastic needle plopped at
the side of the table.
I gulped heavily, the feeling seeming like I swallowed a hunk of metal.
She velvetely, but as I exaggerated, she abruptly stabbed me with the plastic needle,
which so happened to be my fear.
The session was over.
I was told that i’d be wheeled to a wharf, were I would stay the night.
I was seated comfortably in a wheelchair, as my mother and an anonymous man wheeled me
there.
The entire ride was silent, nobody spoke.
I had finally entered the soundless, airy building, the sound the squeaking wheels halted.
A nurse and my mum took me into their arms, limping me over to my room. My mum left me for
a while, I slept.

ᴘɪɢᴇᴏɴ ɪᴍᴘᴏssɪʙʟᴇ ɴᴇᴡs ʀᴇᴘᴏʀᴛ

Breaking News! Something vicious has occurred in the town square of Washington D.C, at 8:42AM this year, 1976. Secret Agent Walter Becket encountered face-to-face with a fatal, cruel pigeon, who was the mastermind behind this brutal phenomenon. It all started when Agent Becket gave the intellectual species a nibble of his breakfast. The pigeon, being the intellect it was, rejected the food, and turned it’s attention to Becket’s secret nuclear bomb compartment, disguised as an oscillating, slate briefcase. The pigeon’s curiosity obviously got the best of itself, and began poking at the unrecognizable buttons hidden inside of the briefcase. Although the pigeon was an intellect, it seemed, the Pigeon wasn’t smart enough to realize that the buttons inside the briefcase were in fact buttons leading to: 1, havoc among Washington D.C, and 2, a close-call of the destruction of Moscow, Russia.
he pigeon’s plan, it seemed, was to destroy Washington, all in return for a bagel. However, the close destruction of Moscow was caused by Agent Walter Becket! A twist in the story indeed, but here’s the story. The Agent plotted to trick the Pigeon into escaping the briefcase by hallucinating it into thinking it was going to receive the bagel it had wanted. However, when the pigeon leapt out in hopes of having the taste of a bagel, the Agent slammed his hand against the pigeon, barely knocking the pigeon out. During the Agent’s plan, it all seemed to have backfired when the bagel landed exactly on the “CAUTION” red button, which activated a major explosive, heading to Moscow, Russia.
The scene was tragic, as the nuke headed up to the sky, shooting farther and farther away from D.C. The Agent, went on a mission to possibly deactivate the machine, using his secret briefcase explosive compartment to fly up nearby the nuclear bomb, in hopes of deactivating the bomb. What Agent Becket didn’t realize, was that the Pigeon followed after him, still craving the sweet, yet savory meal it had long waited for. Becket, however, listened to the pigeon’s cravings, and shot the bagel down below. The pigeon chased after the bagel, diving back to the surface.  Just in time, Becket was able to get the bomb high enough into the sky for it to explode without harming anybody.
Although Becket was our hero, we had to unfortunately arrest the man, for animal cruelty rights, and carrying illegal devices around in the city streets. Sadly, our beloved pigeon in this headline, has passed away from the top-end of the nuke sadly crushing the pigeon during it’s eating-time.

Room 2 were tasked to create a news report, based off of a short film we watched called
"PIGEON IMPOSSIBLE."
I was fond of being creative with the news report, and writing the ideas I came up with.
I found making my piece at least look like it was from the newspaper difficult, as I had to go through tons of fonts before choosing a font that was suitable for the theme of the writing piece.
Next time, I think I could try and get this done on the date given, as it would be much more easier to get it done on the day rather than take an extra day to finish it.
If I were to give myself constructive criticism, I would tell myself to not worry too much about how much i'm writing, and just focus on how descriptive and how much of a newspaper report it actually seems like.
